Introduction to Supervision

The role of the Department Head, Team Leader or Supervisor should never be under-rated. The first steps in management are some of the most critical to take in the career of all people managers. The functional specialist has to take on the mantle of supervising people requiring a wide range of new skills and techniques.

Programme Objectives:
Describe the role and responsibilities of the successful supervisor.
State the critical steps to follow for effective communication.
State the barriers to good communication and how to overcome them.
State the generally accepted styles of leadership.
Demonstrate their understanding of various styles of management and ..leadership.
Identify the role of the supervisor as a coach and the key steps to follow.
State the factors to consider when creating a good team.

Developed for:
First Line Supervisors,Tteam Leaders and Department Heads recently appointed to the role. Supervision of staff would be desirable but not essential. Additionally, individuals would be suitable who have no experience of managing people but may be doing so in the future.
