Leading the Team – Leader or Manager?
Before you can embark on your journey to Leadership, you need to identify your true preference. Complete the questionnaire below - and be as open and honest as you can be with your answers.
Which of the following behaviours apply to you? Choose either A or B for each question.
1A. I concentrate on the task to get it done.
1B. I ask myself if it’s the right task.

2B. I listen carefully to others’ opinions and choose the one I believe in.

10B. I rarely surprise people.
Let’s see how you did?
Give yourself 1 point for each of the following that you ticked;
1A, 2B, 3A, 4B, 5A, 6B, 7A, 8B, 9A, 10B
Give yourself 2 points for each of the following that you ticked;
1B, 2A, 3B, 4A, 5B, 6A, 7B, 8A, 9B, 10A
Score 18 or more;
You are very comfortable with leadership and probably dislike many everyday tasks that are required to be a good manager. Beware - don’t become complacent, ensure you, or the others around you, can handle those regular management tasks; this is as important as being an effective leader. Also, don’t forget - the best leaders are constantly striving to be better.
Score 13-17;
You have a feel for leadership, but struggle at times. You need to identify areas of weakness and develop new ways of working.
Score 12 or less;
You prefer managing rather than leading and probably look to others for leadership in most situations, concentrating instead on getting the job done. You may have asked yourself; “How do I lead people? What is Leadership? How do leaders do it?”
I hope you found this questionnaire useful in taking the first steps to becoming an effective leader.
Every Success
